Off Road Rescue Trailer
A fatal snowmobile accident on the
Wapsipinicon River in Independence during the winter of 2002-2003
sparked an idea by local emergency workers. After having to
run a quarter mile over the frozen river in frigid temperatures
to the scene of the accident the EMS workers were themselves
at risk. Some kind of a rescue vehicle was needed in case of
another accident in the future.
A joint project involving The Trailblazers,
two area snowmobile clubs and several area businesses was begun.
The maintenance crew at the hospital dedicated many hours to
designing and building a small trailer that could be pulled
behind an ATV to reach an accident site with limited access.
This trailer is ready to be used on ice or on the trail, though
hopefully it will never be needed.
